shanda.jpgHousing | Our evolving relationship with Prudential Northwest Properties has instilled a belief in the meaning of “home.” From basic self-discipline, the simplest of norms and standards, to formal education and/or job training, a stable home environment is the best place for healthy development. In 2004 we committed ourselves to this direction by creating our first transitional home for homeless youth in Portland. We've since opened a home in Vancouver and our rural "Home on the Range" near Battle Ground, Washington. Under the loving guidance of caring “parents” who also hold a strong faith in God’s service, the houses serve several youth at a given time. We require all residents to either be involved in educational programs or employed. In the near future we hope to add more transitional homes in the Portland/Vancouver area.

Outreach | Our outreach goals are to connect with homeless youth, build trust, offer guidance, and establish lasting bonds in their lives. Since 1991, our volunteers have provided food, clothing and personal hygiene items to homeless youth. At our outreach facility in downtown Portland, we provide warm meals and clothing to homeless young people, serving more than 10,000 meals each year. Several times a year our staff and volunteers provide weekend retreats for homeless youth to experience nature and life’s simple beauty. These retreats are unique to Transitional Youth, and through hands-on interaction facilitated by caring adults, youth are able to discover meaningful possibilities in environments beyond the streets. During Easter each year, 20-30 youth travel to Royal Ridges in Washington to rock climb, ride horses and enjoy songs by the campfire. Other outings have included trips to the coast, boating, camping and hiking.

Support | Our support of material and financial donations occur largely through the agents and staff of Prudential Northwest Properties. Many agents donate funds from real estate closings, in addition to making year-round clothing and material goods donations. We also hold fund raising events such as the annual Transitional Youth Golf Tournament and Keys of Hope concert series.
